Summer is winding down and temperatures are getting cooler. In the Coeur d’Alene area, we can get our first frost in September. You need to make sure your outdoor plumbing is protected from frost damage. That would include disconnecting your hose from the hose faucet. They will not drain out if left connected and can freeze inside the wall, causing damage. If you have any plumbing questions, please give me a call.
Flushing your water heater twice a year is a good idea to keep hard water deposits from building up. It will make your water heater last a lot longer. There is a drain valve at the bottom of the tank. All you have to do is hook a hose up and flush a gallon or two out. Remember this is HOT WATER, so be aware so that you don’t get burned. Fall is the time to think about winterization. Make sure to disconnect all hoses from outdoor faucets. If your house has a crawlspace, close all the vents around the house. These two things will help prevent a freeze up and broken pipes. If you need any advise call Lakeside Custom Plumbing @ 208-691-9356.
